3 ongoing projects

1. The Employability and Enterprise Mentoring Scheme (Oct 2013 - Present)

The Employability and Enterprise Mentoring Scheme has been accredited with a national quality standard by way of the Approved Provider Status by the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation.

We work with a number of organisations and successful entrepreneurs to find mentors for UEL students and graduates to give them an insider’s view into the world of work, careers or self employment. This is a fantastic opportunity for students and recent graduates to be matched with a professional or self employed mentor to explore their options and achieve their ambitions.

As a mentee you can interact and network with people in professional roles, plan career goals, build and develop the skills employers look for or support you to create, build and develop your business. Over a period of time mentoring can provide you with support, guidance and assistance so that you may improve your confidence, skills, ability and gain a sense of personal achievement.

The Employability and Enterprise Team have a number of different mentoring schemes which can help you develop both personally and professionally and allow you to have a chance to be either a mentor or mentee.

3. The UEL Graduate Internship Scheme (Oct 2012 - Jul 2013)

The University of East London is committed to offering recent UEL graduates access to a paid internship if they are unemployed or underemployed three months after graduation, this will be an invaluable step into the workplace.

Recent graduates will be contacted and invited to apply to the scheme through a competitive process. Graduates showing most potential will be invited to attend a rigorous preparation programme to ensure that they are ‘employer-ready’ and are assigned to an internship where they have a high chance of success.

The UEL Graduate Internship Scheme will draw on the expertise of the University’s Employability
and Enterprise Team who will draw on the previous success of the KnowledgEast Graduate Internship Scheme which, in 2010 provided 512 graduates with paid internship opportunities.

Femi Bola (MBE), UEL’s Director of Employability and Enterprise said; “The UEL Graduate Internship Scheme presents a great opportunity for UEL to tackle one of the pressing issues of the moment, graduate unemployment, whilst continuing to build our understanding and expertise in the area of graduate level employability skills."
